NATFA’s library was established in 1948 when the State School of Theater at the National Theater was awarded the statute of a higher school of theater – State Higher School of Theater. In 2006, the library was restructured into an Academic Information Center, and in 2010 – into an Academic Library and Archive (ALA). The main objective of ALA is to combine traditional library activities with innovative library and information technologies. NATFA’s Academic Library and Archive stores some 63 000 volumes of Bulgarian and foreign books and magazines. It hosts a rich catalogued archive of the Bulgarian theater and cinema which contains all kinds of printed material /posters, photos, programs, brochures, newspaper and magazine clips, etc./ dating from 1879 till present times.
